Indications
Vibra-Tab is an antimalarial medication used to treat bacterial infections in your body as well as pimples and abscesses caused by rosacea. This medication is also used to prevent malaria and treat anthrax infections after exposure.
Doxycycline is a tetracycline antibiotic drug that kills bacterial cells in your body and prevents their growth by inhibiting their protein synthesis. Dosage and Administration
The dose of Vibra-Tab that is prescribed will vary depending on the individual and severity of infection being treated. Follow all your healthcare provider’s instructions and read packaging labels carefully to ensure the best results during treatment. Do not change your dose or take this medication for a different span of time than prescribed.
- Swallow tablets whole
- Take with a full glass of water or another liquid
- If irritation occurs, take with food or milk
- Most adults initiate treatment with 200mg taken as 100mg every 12 hours for the first day
- Starting the second day of treatment, adults take a maintenance dose of 100mg once daily
- Adults with more serious infections may be prescribed 100mg every 12 hours
- Children weighing less than 45kg being treated for severe infections should take 2.2mg/kg every 12 hours
- Those weighing less than 45kg with less severe infections should take 4.4mg/kg divided on the first day of treatment followed by 2.2mg/kg either once daily or divided
- Children over 45kg should take the recommended adult doses
- Store at room temperature out of reach of children and pets
Usual treatment regimens:
- Adults with uncomplicated gonococcal infections should take 100mg twice daily for 7 days
- Those with uncomplicated urethral, endocervical, or rectal infections should take 100mg twice daily for 7 days

- Adults with syphilis should take 100mg twice daily for 2 weeks
- Acute epididymo-orchitis patients should take 100mg twice daily for at least 10 days

- Adults are recommended to take 100mg daily
- Children older than 8 should take 2mg/kg once daily up to 100mg a day
- Start treatment 1 to 2 days before traveling to areas with malaria
- Continue treatment throughout your travel and for 4 weeks upon leaving the malarious area
To treat inhalational anthrax after exposure:
- Adults should take 100mg twice daily for 60 days
- Children who weigh less than 45kg should take 2.2mg/kg twice daily for 60 days
- Children weighing more than 45kg should take the adult dose

- Vibra-Tabs may cause your skin to become more sensitive to sunlight. Avoid direct exposure to the sun or artificial UV rays, wear protective clothing and sunscreen. Even short periods in the sun could lead to skin rash, itching, redness, or skin discolouration.
- If you develop a fever, rash, joint pain, or tiredness, contact your healthcare provider because these could be signs of a serious autoimmune syndrome.
- Some drugs can interact with Vibra-Tab and cause unwanted effects. Tell your healthcare provider about all the medications you take, including over the counter medicines, but especially any of the following:
- Acitretin
- Other antibacterial medicines such as amoxicillin, ampicillin, methicillin
- Certain hormones and steroid medications like estradiol, ethinyl estradiol, and levonorgestrel
- Magnesium sulfate
- Tretinoin
- Antacids that contain aluminum, calcium, or magnesium
- Iron
- Rifampin
- Rifapentine
- Avoid drinking alcohol or smoking tobacco during treatment because they can cause an increase in adverse reactions.
