Frontline Plus is a popular flea and ticks’ treatment for cats. Frontline Plus for cats is indicated for the treatment and control of flea, tick, and chewing lice infestations. Frontline Plus for cats is used for the treatment and prevention of fleas, ticks, and chewing lice in dogs. In addition, it can be used on pregnant and lactating queens.
Use and Dosage
Frontline Plus is typically applied every 30 days for the best protection. Protection against ticks is limited to 30 days, though protection against fleas can be for up to 6 weeks according to the manufacturer.

It is a Federal Law violation to use this product inconsistent with its labelling. Do not allow children to apply the product. To kill fleas, and all stages of brown dog ticks, American dog ticks, lone star ticks, and deer ticks (which may carry Lyme disease) and chewing lice, apply to cats and kittens (8 weeks or older) as follows: Remove applicator from child-resistant package. Hold the applicator upright and snap the applicator tip away from the face and body. Place the applicator tip through the animal’s hair to the skin level between the shoulder blades. Squeeze applicator, applying entire contents in a single spot to the animal’s skin. Avoid superficial application to the animal’s hair. Only one applicator per treatment is needed.
Side Effects
Side effects are rare and generally mild. Skin irritation at the application site is relatively common but not usually a cause for concern. Other side effects may occur if your cat ingests the medication, including:

- Foaming at the mouth
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Aggression or hyperactivity

How Long Does It Take for Frontline Plus to Work on Cats?
According to the manufacturer, Frontline can start to kill fleas within 4 hours and can kill 100% of fleas on a pet within 12-18 hours. Remember however that when first applied, it can take up to 24 hours for Frontline to be fully effective.
While Frontline Plus kills ticks, it can take up to 48 hours for them to be killed. According to the product label, mosquitoes are killed within 24 hours for up to 14 days and within 48 hours for up to 28 days.
