Indications

Entresto is a heart medication that combines sacubitril with valsartan used to improve symptoms of chronic heart failure and reduce the risk of heart failure and death. By combining two drugs, this medication affects two pathophysiological mechanisms of heart failure to help maintain proper blood pressure and flow.

Sacubitril is a blood pressure medication that inhibits neprilysin, which is an enzyme responsible for degrading vasoactive peptides. Valsartan is an angiotensin receptor blocker that blocks the activation of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system. All this combined helps prevent heart failure and reduce the risk of death.

Compared to other heart medications, Entresto significantly reduces blood pressure and mortality due to heart failure for those with heart failure, reduced ejection fraction, and elevated circulating levels of natriuretic peptides.

FAQ

How long does it take for Entresto to work?

When you take Entresto, its sacubitril and valsartan are broken down and absorbed into your body. The concentration of these drugs stays level and consistent after 3 days of taking the medication twice daily. However, the timeline for visible effects of the drug will vary by person.

Does Entresto improve ejection fraction?

Entresto has been proven to increase left ventricular ejection fraction. The medication does so thanks to its combination of angiotensin receptor antagonist and neprilysin inhibitor that improve blood flow and pressure.

Is Entresto a blood thinner and does it lower blood pressure?

Entresto is not classified as a blood thinner, but it does help lower blood pressure by relaxing blood vessels and improving blood flow. This medication does that through angiotensin receptor blockage and neprilysin inhibition through its combination of valsartan and sacubitril.
