Levaquin (Levofloxacin) a medication used to treat bacterial infections that affect the kidneys, bladder, prostate, skin, and sinuses. Levaquin (Levofloxacin) is an antibiotic called fluoroquinolones. This drug can also treat infections from bacteria that cause bronchitis or pneumonia or people who have been exposed to anthrax.
Levaquin (Levofloxacin) should be stored away from moisture and heat at room temperature.
It is possible that you are taking certain medication that cannot be taken at the same time as Levaquin (Levofloxacin), avoid taking other medication within 2 hours of taking Levaquin (Levofloxacin). The following medication can make Levaquin (Levofloxacin) less effective: antacids that contain magnesium or aluminum (such as Maalox, Mylanta, or Rolaids); the ulcer medicine sucralfate (Carafate); didanosine (Videx) powder or chewable tablets; or vitamin or mineral supplements that contain iron or zinc. In addition, while taking Levaquin (Levofloxacin), avoid exposure to sunlamps, tanning beds, and sunlight as Levaquin (Levofloxacin) can mek your skin more sensitive to sunlight and you may get a sunburn more easily.
If antibiotic medication is causing diarrhea, it maybe a sign that you have an infection. Call your doctor immediately if your diarrhea is watery or has blood in it. Also remember to not take diarrhea stopping medication unless your doctor has said you can. Lastly, be aware that Levaquin (Levofloxacin) can impair your judgment and reaction speed so do not perform any tasks that require full mental awareness.
Follow your doctor’s instructions and the label on your prescription closely. Do not take larger doses than recommended. Take Levaquin (Levofloxacin) with a full glass of water and remember to drink several extra glasses of fluids daily while taking Levaquin (Levofloxacin). You can take this drug with or without food.
