Indications

Frova is a medication used to treat migraines with or without aura in adults. It helps to relieve headache, pain, and other migraine symptoms (including nausea, vomiting, sensitivity to light and sound).

If your symptoms are only partly relieved or if your headache comes back, the U.S. manufacturer recommends that you may take another dose after 2 hours, up to a maximum of 3 doses (7.5 milligrams) in 24 hours. The Canadian manufacturer recommends that you may take another dose after 4 hours, up to a maximum of 2 doses (5 milligrams) in 24 hours. Carefully follow your doctor’s directions for using this medication.

If you have a higher risk for heart problems (see Precautions), your doctor may perform a heart exam before you start taking frovatriptan. Do not use medications more often or for longer than directed. Side Effects

Get emergency medical help if you have signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.

Frova may cause serious side effects. Stop using Frova and call your doctor at once if you have:

• Sudden and severe stomach pain and bloody diarrhea
• Severe chest pain, shortness of breath, or irregular heartbeats
• A seizure (convulsions)
• Blood circulation problems in your legs or feet–cramps, tight or heavy feeling, numbness or tingling, muscle weakness, burning pain, cold feeling, color changes (pale or blue), or hip pain
• Heart attack symptoms–chest pain or pressure, pain spreading to your jaw or shoulder, nausea, or sweating
• High levels of serotonin in the body–agitation, hallucinations, fever, fast heart rate, overactive reflexes, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, loss of coordination, or fainting
• Increased blood pressure–severe headache, blurred vision, pounding in your neck or ears, anxiety, or nosebleed
• Signs of a stroke–sudden numbness or weakness (especially on one side of the body), sudden severe headache, slurred speech, or problems with vision or balance

Common side effects of Frova may include:

• Mild headache (not a migraine)
• Feeling too warm or too cold
• Dry mouth or upset stomach
• Chest pain
• Bone or joint pain
• Numbness or tingling in your fingers or toes
• Dizziness or tiredness
• Flushing (warmth, redness, or tingly feeling)

Cautions

Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of: blood circulation problems (for example, in your legs, arms/hands, or stomach), certain types of headaches (hemiplegic or basilar migraine), heart problems (such as chest pain, irregular heartbeat, and previous heart attack), liver disease, seizure, stroke or “mini-stroke” (transient ischemic attack).
